How does it actually work?

Scroll to the group you want, tap its WhatsApp link, and send the message that's already typed out for you. A Cuenca-based volunteer checks it and drops you into the chat, almost always the same day. No account, no download, no fee.

Is it free?

Free, no catch. Every group under Cuenca People Club costs nothing to join. We don't sell your contact info, we don't let the chat fill with spam, and we don't run ads in the groups.

Can I join more than one group?

Accepted Answer

Join whichever ones speak to you - most people end up in a few. It's common to see someone in Hiking Cajas, Digital Nomads, and Foodies all at once. There's no membership cap here.

Question 4

What's the group size? Won't it be spammy?

Accepted Answer

No group grows past 250 people, and moderators are active daily. Spam, crypto shilling, and random promo posts get pulled fast, and repeat offenders get removed. It's built for members talking to members, nothing else.

Question 5

I'm only in Cuenca for a week. Worth joining?

A week is plenty. Newcomers & Short Stays throws a welcome dinner most Tuesdays, helps coordinate the ride in from the airport, and within a day or two you'll have a handful of locals pointing you toward El Cajas and away from the tourist traps.

I don't have WhatsApp. Another option?

Most of Cuenca's expat and local life happens over WhatsApp, from apartment leads to doctor appointments, so installing it solves more than just this. If that's truly not possible on your end, send us a note through the contact page and we'll work out an alternative.

Question 7

Are these groups safe? Vetted?

Before anyone's added, we ask for a short intro: name, photo, where you're coming from, which group. Reports of scamming or harassment get someone removed fast. This is neighbors and travelers looking out for each other, not a marketplace.

Cuenca People Club comes from a small group of long-term expats and locals who kept meeting newcomers who felt isolated after moving here. We run it ourselves, on our own time - never a company, just neighbors helping neighbors settle in.
